The Union of Bulgarian Foresters is a non-profit, autonomous public professional organization, which has its own organization statute and national forest policy programme.
As a non-government organization, the Union aims at being independent public guarantor protecting the national interests by carrying out the forest policy and working for enhancing the rights and reputation of Bulgarian foresters.
The Union of Foresters cooperates for better forest management and utilization, takes active part in the development of forest legislation, forest preservation strategy and the development of forestry in Bulgaria.
The Union of Bulgarian Foresters collaborates with similar national and foreign organizations.
The Union of Bulgarian Foresters established contacts with the European forestry community in the spring of 1996, participating in the fourteenth congress of the Union of European Foresters.
The Union of Bulgarian Foresters has been a regular member of the Union of European Foresters since 1999, having been an associated member for the previous three years. Bulgarian Union delegations have attended all the conferences and congresses since 1996. Our country put forward its candidature to host the regular annual conference in 2006.

The Union of Bulgarian Foresters along with the Forestry Department takes part in organizing the Forest Week, celebrated annually in the first week of April, as well as in nominating for the honorary title "Forester of the Year", awarded at the opening of the Forest Week.
According to the statute of the union, its management leadership is elected every four years by the assembly meting. The superior governing body of the Union of Bulgarian Foresters is the Managing Committee, which elects the Chairman, Vice-chairmen and Secretary of the union. The present Managing Committee consists of 28 members.
There are four commissions in it, which aid the organization activities of the union.
