The Union of Bulgarian Foresters has a hundred-year history. It was founded by enthusiastic foresters, scientists and specialist who were educated abroad. In the beginning of twentieth century it was extremely important for Bulgaria to terminate the erosion processes, to use the forest areas burned by enslavers, to create new forests and to manage these forests by most suitable forest practices.

       

       The foresters actively participated in the protection and preservation of Bulgarian forests. A number of foresters devoted their lives to the fight against illegal cuttings. The UBF, by its education and regional societies actively supports the Bulgarian Government in its efforts to establish the best management structure of The Bulgarian Forestry Sector. The changing socioeconomic conditions in the country have strengthened the UBF members' activity, which plays active and constructive role simultaneously.

       

       As members of the Union of European Foresters we are proud that Bulgaria is the host country of the Governing Council Meeting in 2006.

       

       We accept this honor as a recognition for the success of Bulgarian forestry and the achieved international positions.
